Susanne Dietz

Artist in Residence

Susanne is a visual artist working with moving image, collage, sound, and performative gestures. She creates films and installations that question the ambiguous nature of reality, memory, and the restless body. She works across visual arts and live performance.

For the last year, a key focus in her practice has been the research into perimenopause/ menopause and the effects and hidden narratives of women, trans men and non-binary people affected by these hormonal shifts. She is interested in how these narratives about psychological and physical vulnerabilities in relation to health concerns lay bare structural aspects of our societies.

"I am excited about my upcoming artist’s residency at NIHA during which I hope to get a deeper understanding of brain health and data visualisation in the Brain Imaging Lab, and to use this opportunity to explore this art-science collaboration together with the NIHA team and researchers on equal terms."

This research project has been made possible by Arts Council England. Other awards include the a-n Bursary ‘Time Space Money programme’ delivered in partnership with Arts Council England, SHORT to the Point Award - Best Experimental Film, Film Short Filmfestival Bucharest/ Romania, and a Postgraduate Scholarship, Goldsmiths Department of Art, University of London Recent film screenings, video design for theatres, and exhibitions include London Short Film Festival, Soho Theatre London, CURRENTS Media Festival Santa Fe/New Mexico, Edinburgh International Film Festival, Festival Delle Colline Torinesi, Torino/Italy, SET Gallery London, and Southwark Park Galleries London.
