This study aims to explore the factors associated with sleep disturbances in expectant mothers. The study will employ a mixed-methods design to gather data. Expectant mothers will complete a short survey to explore the main factors affecting their ability to ensure good sleep quality and any symptoms they have experienced due to poor sleep quality. Pregnant women will also be asked to attend mini group discussions, as will Healthcare Professionals to establish further insight into the extent of sleep difficulties during pregnancy and, for HCP, how sleep quality is raised during consultations. The aim of the discussion sessions is to explore women’s experiences of sleep, support sought, views on the development of toolkits and materials and about being involved in future research. The study will run until December 2025.
