Prof Max Bachmann is a public health physician and clinical epidemiologist whose research is focused on improving population health by strengthening primary health care. He carries out clinical cohort studies of people with long term health conditions, and pragmatic randomised trials of complex interventions intended to improve the quality of care and health outcomes. This research largely deals with non-communicable conditions associated with ageing, such as diabetes, hypertension, chronic lung disease and cancer, as well as infectious diseases like HIV and tuberculosis, and is based in Africa and South America as well as the UK.
