Dr Emma Coombes

Research Fellow

Emma is a Research Fellow in Epidemiology and Public Health based at the University of East Anglia (UEA). Her research focuses on environmental and social influences on health. Emma’s interests include work to understand the determinants of health and related behaviours, the evaluation of health interventions, and understanding the impact of access to health services. In particular, she has strong expertise in the field of physical activity, including the application of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) technology to understand environmental influences on physical activity behaviours.


Emma’s interdisciplinary background has given her extensive experience of utilising a broad range of research methods, including both quantitative and qualitative methods, although she has particular knowledge of working with multivariate datasets. Emma teaches on the Research Methods module that is part of the MB BS programme run by Norwich Medical School and she is a guest lecturer on the Sports Psychology degree programme run by School of Education at UEA.
